![]() ![]() When employee behavior is influenced by concerns of how that behavior will appear to others, it is called impression management ( Leary, 2011), which is ubiquitous in organizations ( DuBrin, 2011 Rosenfeld, Giacalone, & Riordan, 1995). It appears employees are increasingly recognizing that conveying an image of dedication and a willingness to exceed expectations has important career implications. Then the Washington Post suggested that employees often wear on their sleeves that they do not take time off, that their busyness is a badge of honor, and that they suffer from a “work martyr complex” ( Schulte, 2014).
